A HEROIN user battered another man with an extendable metal baton after he threatened to report his drug-dealing to the police, a court heard.

At a previous hearing, Jack Benjamin Rollerson (pictured right) admitted unlawful wounding, possession of an offensive weapon and possession of a knife, but denied he was motivated by revenge.

At a hearing at Plymouth Crown Court yesterday, Rollerson's barrister Ali Rafati said it was a factor, though not the only one.

He said Rollerson had been in a relationship with Rob Hoskin's girlfriend, Emily Griffin, and the two men had argued on the phone.

Prosecutor Nick Lewin said that on July 17 last year, Rollerson and two other men turned up at Ms Griffin's flat and asked to speak to Mr Hoskin, intending to harm him.

The following evening at around 11pm, Rollerson returned alone, armed with an extendable baton similar to the Casco used by police.

Ms Griffin, fearing problems with neighbours, let him in, but he produced the weapon and she was petrified, the court heard.

She told him Mr Hoskin was not there, but Rollerson searched the flat, including a bedroom where her young baby was sleeping.

Mr Hoskin then turned up and was attacked with the baton by Rollerson, who beat him forcefully and repeatedly over the head and body.

One three-inch head gash needed eight stitches, and he was punched and bruised.

The next day Rollerson was stopped by police while driving erratically and his car was searched and found to contain a Stanley knife and claw hammer, which Rollerson said he had used for decorating. At his home were found a baseball bat, a knuckleduster, a bloodstained T-shirt and a baton.

Rollerson, aged 31 and from Houndiscombe Road, Mutley, had a conviction in 2003 for dealing heroin.

Judge Francis Gilbert QC told Rollerson the reason for the attack was a central issue in the case.

Emily Griffin had told Mr Hosking that Rollerson had been supplying her with heroin, and Mr Hoskin either told the police or told Rollerson he had or was going to, he said.

The judge added: "This offence was more serious as it was motivated at least in part Replica Longines Watch by revenge or an attempt to stop him reporting your drug-dealing.

"This is a very serious aspect of the case, and those who do it must expect severe punishment."

He jailed Rollerson for 30 months, less 220 days already spent in jail on remand.
