The Night before purim I worked and I most say I never knew the reason about getting drunk on Purim. I was just listening to Yishai Fleisher and friends on http://israelnationalradio.com/. The guest was Rabbi Judah on the many layers of Purim. I was struck by how strongly the story of purim relates to springtime. A time of hope and renewal. How quickly things can turn from despair to hope. It's a perfect fit but what else should one expect? It's a wonderful story, what a great time of year! And so especially poignant with current situations in the world.
